Synopsis: Civic participation is essential to envision and build thriving communities. This learning journey sets out to help funders explore the relationship of arts and civic engagement in an Appalachian context. Together, participants will explore how artists, arts and culture can help increase local civic infrastructure and learn about work and strategies already underway locally, regionally and nationally. Throughout the journey funders are invited to envision innovative strategies to increase support for community-rooted cultural practices, with an emphasis on rural Appalachia. By the end of this learning journey, participants will have: -- A deeper understanding of how arts-based strategies build civic infrastructure in Appalachia. -- An understanding of asset-based approaches that support arts, culture, and civic life as core elements of an equitable future. -- An understanding of arts and culture practitioners as civic leaders.
